Questions and Advice about Loft Ladders

Loft ladder advice and help

We're taking rather a long time to get this bit written. The trouble is we need to get it right but we're so busy fitting ladders!

Safe storage, ladder use and other hints and tips for the best use of your loft will appear here soon but we have managed to put some answers to questions we are frequently asked.

:: Will there be much dust or mess after the job is done?

No. Our fitters will protect your property with dust sheets, they will attempt to keep any dust to a minimum. If necessary will vacuum clean with industrial equipment at the end of the day. We do not leave any mess for customers to clean up.

:: What parts of the country do you fit loft ladders?

We are able to work in lofts all over the country but in certain areas have to make a small charge for fuel. Just email us your postcode and which deal or ladder you are interested in and we can advise you how much the fuel charge would be. We try to keep this to an absolute minimum.

:: How long will it take the fitters to fit the ladder?

This will depend on which ladder or package deal you order, a ladder can take from two to four hours and package deals one to two days. Be assured we stay until the job is finished, we never leave a property until we have completely finished whether it's a ladder or a large package deal.

:: My loft hatch goes up into the loft at the moment can it be converted to hinge down?

Yes. Our fitter will convert your hatch door to hinge down. This door will then be operated by a pole supplied with the ladder. If the door is too heavy or weak we may need to replace it with a new one, there is a small charge to cover materials for this service but often is not needed.

:: Do you subcontract your fitting out to self-employed carpenters?

NO! All of our fitters and labourers are fully employed by Easy Step Loft Ladders. That's how we are able to offer a 10 year guarantee on our products. We always ensure that our fitters have a solid knowledge of our products and experience in fitting them before they are released into the wild! There's more to fitting ladders than a run-of-the-mill carpenter can do, we know all the little problems and pitfalls. In fact we often fit for builders and carpenters who do not want to get involved with the technical side of it all.

:: Do we need to move our belongings in our loft?

No, not unless the loft is totally full and the fitters have no room to move around. What is the point in getting a safe form of access and floor put in your loft if you are going to risk life and limb preparing for it to be done. We will carefully move your belongings and consider it part of the job.

:: How long do I have to wait before I have my ladder fitted?

This varies depending on the area you live but be assured your order will be very important to us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

:: Can you convert lofts into living or work areas?

Yes. Our carpenters have experience of loft conversions but as a company we specialise in loft access and storage, we can turn your dark dusty old loft into a clean well ventilated cupboard for storage.

:: If I pay more can I get a better quality ladder?

No. In our opinion our ladders are the best on the market. We have tried to ‘road test’ every ladder available and have picked ladders we consider stand the test of time and are as easy as possible to operate.

:: I don't think a ladder will fit. What do you think?

Customers have often been wrongly advised by either an inexperienced builder or a neighbour that a ladder won't fit their loft.

We are never beaten, there is always a solution, after all we could not call ourselves experts if we could not get around the problems posed by restrictive situations.
